In-person Reiki or distance Reiki: what do you actually lose?

By Vanessa Chugani · Updated August 2026

Choose in-person if you can get to Canggu and want the room, the drive there and light touch as part of the hour. Choose distance if travel, time zones, being unwell or simply staying in your own bed matters more. Both are full sessions with Vanessa, live, at an agreed time, nothing recorded.

People ask whether distance Reiki is a lesser version of the real thing. The practice is the same session, held without a shared room. In person, you lie on a table in Vanessa's treatment space in Canggu while she works with light touch on or near your body. At a distance, you lie down wherever you are, at a time you have agreed together, for the same length of session, with no touch involved. What changes is the physical setting: the drive there, the room itself, another person's hands nearby. What stays the same is the hour set aside, her attention for that hour, and the rest that comes from nothing being asked of you.

Which one suits you

If you can get to Canggu and like the idea of an hour away from your own house, in-person is the fuller version: the room, the drive there, someone's hands near your body while you rest. Some people need that separation to actually switch off. Distance is the right call more often than people assume. If you are working long hours and cannot spare the travel time, if you are out of Bali altogether, if you are unwell and do not want to leave the house, or if you would simply rather be in your own bed, book distance and do not treat it as the lesser option. What is missing is the room and the touch. What is not missing is the hour itself, her attention for that hour, and the rest a nervous system gets when nothing is asked of it. That is what Reiki here is for, in either form.

Related questions

Is a distance session really the same as coming in?

It is the same length of time and the same attention from Vanessa, arranged for an hour you agree together in advance. What differs is the room and the touch. If lying down undisturbed for an hour helps you rest, the format matters less than people expect.

Will I feel anything during a distance session?

Some people notice warmth or heaviness, some notice nothing at all, and both are ordinary, in person or at a distance. Feeling nothing does not mean nothing happened. It is worth coming to a session without expectations either way, and just seeing what the hour is like for you.

Can I mix in-person and distance sessions?

Yes. The three and five session packages are valid for either format, so you can book in person one week and at a distance the next, whichever suits you better once you see how that particular week is actually going for you.
