Distance Reiki: An Honest Account

August 2026 · 3 min read · By Vanessa Chugani

I offer distance sessions and about half my session work is now done this way, mostly with people in Europe. I also think most of what is written about distance healing online is nonsense, so let me try to do this differently.

I am not going to explain the mechanism

You will find pages, and until recently one on this site, explaining distance healing through quantum entanglement. I have taken ours down. Entanglement does not permit information or influence to be sent between particles, and borrowing the word to sound credible is not honest. If a healer offers you physics, be careful.

So: I do not know the mechanism, and I am not going to invent one. What I can tell you is what happens, what people consistently report, and what it costs.

What actually happens

We agree a time. You lie down somewhere warm where you will not be interrupted, for about forty five minutes. You do not need to do anything, and you do not need to be on a call.

At the agreed time I sit with your name and your intention, and I work as I would if you were on the table, moving through the same sequence. Afterwards I write to you with what I noticed, and you tell me what you noticed. Then we talk, if you want to.

In Level 2 there is a symbol traditionally used for working at a distance, Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen. I use it. I am not going to claim it does something measurable.

What people report

The most common thing by far is that people fall asleep. After that: warmth, usually in the hands or the chest, heaviness, and occasionally a strong emotional release that arrives with no story attached.

People also sometimes report nothing. That happens in the room too.

One thing I notice often enough to mention: people are frequently more relaxed at home than they are on my table. There is no travel, no new place, no stranger, and afterwards you are already in your own bed instead of driving home.

Why I think it works, without claiming why it works

Here is what I actually believe, and you can take it or leave it. A distance session gives you a fixed appointment in which you are required to lie still and do nothing, while someone you have chosen holds you in mind for three quarters of an hour. Very few adults ever get that. I think the hour matters enormously, and I hold the practice lightly enough to say so.

Practical details

  • Sessions run about 45 minutes, plus writing afterwards.
  • A distance session is 138 euros, less than in person, because there is no room to hold and no travel for either of us. Packages of three and five bring that down further.
  • We work across time zones. I am in Bali, and mornings here suit European evenings well.
  • You do not need to be awake, on camera, or in any particular position.

A word about free distance healing

You will find a great deal of free distance Reiki offered online, often to large groups at once. I have no criticism of people offering it. But it does mean the going rate for distance work online is zero, and if you are comparing, it is worth being clear about what differs: a fixed time that is yours, one person's attention rather than a list, and someone who writes to you afterwards and answers when you reply.

If that sounds worth having, the sessions page has the detail, or write to me and tell me what is going on.
