What do I actually need to bring to a Reiki training weekend?
Answered by Vanessa Chugani · Updated September 2026
Not much. Bring comfortable, loose clothing you can sit or lie still in, a water bottle, a notebook, and an open mind. Vanessa provides the manual, the attunement, and support afterwards. Training runs in small groups of six or fewer, often one to one, in Canggu or live online, so dates and pace are arranged around you.
People often imagine Reiki training needs special equipment: crystals, particular clothes, some kind of ritual kit. It doesn't. What actually helps is comfort, a way to take notes, and enough time afterwards to sit with what happened rather than rushing straight back into the day.
What's already taken care of
Each level of training with Vanessa in Canggu, or live online, includes the manual, the attunement itself, and support after you finish. You don't need to bring a printed textbook or source your own materials. Groups stay small, no more than six people, and often it's just you and her one to one, so the pace fits whoever is in the room rather than a fixed script. That suits someone with years of meditation behind them just as well as someone who has never sat still on purpose before.
What to actually pack
- Comfortable, loose clothing. Attunements involve sitting or lying still for stretches of time, so anything tight or restrictive gets uncomfortable fast.
- A notebook. You'll want somewhere to write down what comes up between sessions, questions for Vanessa, and your own observations as you practise.
- Water, and a light layer. Canggu is warm, and indoor rooms aren't always cooled to the same degree, so bring a way to stay comfortable at both ends.
- Something to eat beforehand. Attunements can leave people light-headed if they arrive hungry.
What you can leave at home
Crystals are not part of Usui Shiki Ryoho, and Vanessa doesn't use them in her training, so there's no need to bring any. Read more on crystals, honestly, if you're curious why. You also don't need prior meditation or healing experience, or a particular belief system. She would rather you arrive with accurate expectations than romantic ones, and that includes knowing that feeling nothing during an attunement is entirely normal.
If you're joining live online
The training is taught live, never as a recording and never as an automated attunement, whether you join in the room in Canggu or from wherever you are. Online, the practical list is shorter still: a stable connection, a quiet space where you won't be interrupted, and the same notebook and water you'd bring in person. There's more on preparing for an attunement here if you want the fuller picture.
Beyond that, the main thing to bring is willingness. Training runs across Levels 1 to Master Teacher at EUR 488 per level, in person or live online, and dates are arranged around you rather than fixed to a calendar, so there's room to come prepared rather than rushed. If you want to talk through timing or which level fits where you are, get in touch.
Related questions
Do I need any experience before a training weekend?
No. Levels 1 to Master Teacher are taught from the ground up, in groups of six or fewer or often one to one, so the pace is set for whoever is in the room. Vanessa would rather you arrive with accurate expectations than a specific background, and no prior knowledge is assumed.
Will I feel something during the attunement?
Maybe, maybe not. Feeling nothing during an attunement is normal and doesn't mean it hasn't happened. Vanessa talks through this before it happens so you know what to expect either way, rather than measuring the training against a dramatic experience that isn't guaranteed.
Can I do the training online instead of in Canggu?
Yes. Every level is available live online at the same price as in person, EUR 488 per level. It's taught live each time, never a recording, so you'll want a stable connection and a quiet space rather than any special equipment.
