Do you take your clothes off for Reiki?
Answered by Vanessa Chugani · Updated August 2026
No, you keep your clothes on for a Reiki session in Canggu. You lie fully dressed on a treatment table while the practitioner's hands rest lightly on or just above your body. There is no massage oil and no undressing involved. Wear something loose and comfortable, and you are ready.
What you wear
You keep your clothes on for a Reiki session in Canggu. There is no undressing, no draping, no massage oil, and nothing to prepare beforehand beyond deciding what to wear. Wear whatever you would wear to sit quietly for an hour: something loose and comfortable, layers if you tend to feel the air conditioning, socks if your feet get cold. Take your shoes off before you lie down and that is the extent of it.
Hands-on, over clothing, or hovering
You lie on a treatment table, fully dressed, and I rest my hands lightly on you or just above you, moving through a sequence that covers the head, shoulders, torso and legs. Every point of contact is light and brief, always through your clothing, and I tell you where I am about to place my hands before I do. If you would rather I did not touch you at all, I hover instead, a few centimetres off the body, and either way works just as well. You can ask me to change how I am working at any point, and I will. This is one of the clearest differences between Reiki and massage, where clothing usually does come off so hands can work directly on muscle. Reiki compared with massage goes into the rest of that difference if you are weighing the two up.
What an hour actually looks like
You arrive, we talk for a few minutes about what brought you in, then you lie down on the table in your own clothes and close your eyes. The room is quiet. I work through the sequence for around an hour, and most people either doze off or drift somewhere close to it. Nothing is asked of you for that hour, which is the point. A private, in person session in Canggu is EUR 188. If you would rather not be touched at all, a distance session is EUR 138 and works the same way without you needing to be in the room, so clothing is not even a question there either. Packages are available if you want to come more than once: three sessions for EUR 388, five for EUR 588, valid for either format. Full details are on the sessions page.
Pregnancy sessions
If you are pregnant, the same applies: you stay dressed, and the position on the table is adapted for whichever trimester you are in, usually side lying with a cushion for support rather than flat on your back once that stops being comfortable. Loose, stretchy clothing works best here, and you are welcome to bring your own pillow if that helps you settle. Pregnancy Reiki has more on how a session is adapted as pregnancy goes on.
This suits anyone who wants an hour of rest without needing to prepare beyond wearing something comfortable, and who would rather not be touched more directly than that. Reiki here is rest and support, not a treatment for any medical condition.
Related questions
What should I wear to a Reiki session?
Something loose and comfortable is enough, the kind of thing you would wear to sit quietly for an hour. No special clothing is needed, you keep everything on throughout, and the only thing to take off is your shoes before you lie down on the table.
Will the practitioner actually touch me?
Yes, lightly, through your clothing, on the head, shoulders, torso and legs, and I tell you where my hands are going before I place them. If you would rather not be touched, I hover just above the body instead, which works the same way.
Is it different for pregnancy sessions?
You still stay dressed for the whole session. The position on the table changes as pregnancy progresses, usually moving to side lying with a cushion for support once lying flat stops being comfortable. Loose, stretchy clothing works best, and the same care with consent applies throughout.
