A pregnancy session now, or wait to train as a practitioner: how to choose
By Vanessa Chugani · Updated November 2026
Choose a pregnancy session now if you want rest and support while you are pregnant. Choose to wait on practitioner training if you are drawn to learning Reiki but know a newborn's early weeks will not leave you the attention a live training needs. The two are not opposites: one is for now, one is for later.
These are two different things at two different moments, and it helps to separate them before deciding. A pregnancy Reiki session is something you receive: an hour where someone else does the work and you lie back, adapted to whichever trimester you are in. Practitioner training is something you do: live sessions, in person or online, where you learn the hand positions and the Level 1 symbols yourself, practise between levels, and carry the craft forward. One asks nothing of you but your presence. The other asks for attention, memory and time to practise, which is exactly what the weeks after a birth tend not to offer. Knowing which one you are looking for now makes the choice straightforward.
| Booking a private pregnancy Reiki session now | Waiting until after the baby is born to start practitioner training | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A private Reiki session, in person in Canggu or by distance, adapted to your trimester. | Live Level 1 training, in person or online, where you learn Reiki yourself. |
| What you're doing | Resting and receiving. Nothing to learn, remember or practise. | Learning hand positions and the Level 1 symbols, then practising between sessions. |
| Time commitment | One session, around an hour, with no ongoing commitment unless you choose a package. | Multiple levels, each with its own attunement, spaced out over time. |
| Right timing | Any trimester. Sessions are adapted to how you're feeling that week. | Works at any time, but the exhausted, sleep-short weeks after birth rarely leave room for it. |
| Cost | EUR 188 in person or EUR 138 by distance. Packages: EUR 388 for three, EUR 588 for five. | The training price stays the same whenever you start. Only the timing is different. |
| Who it suits | A pregnant woman who wants support with how she feels now. | A woman drawn to Reiki as a second act, once she has room to learn it properly. |
Which one suits you
If you are pregnant now and want support with how you are feeling, whether that is a body that will not settle, a mind running at night or worry about what is coming, book a private pregnancy session. That is a session for right now, adapted to your trimester, and it asks nothing of you except to show up and lie down. Training is a different decision. Say you are pregnant with your first baby and feel drawn to Reiki as a future path: it is honestly the better call to wait. Level 1 asks you to concentrate, remember and practise, and the first weeks with a newborn give you none of that. Let the training wait until you have slept properly again. Reiki itself, the session kind, is there for whichever stage you are actually in, pregnant or not.

Can I do both, book a session now and train later?
Yes. You can book a pregnancy session for support now, and leave Reiki training until the baby is older and there is time to learn properly. They are not alternatives to choose between once and for all, just two things that suit two different moments.
Is a Reiki session safe to book during pregnancy?
Pregnancy Reiki is offered here and adapted per trimester. It is rest and support, not a treatment for any condition, so if you have a specific medical concern, bring that to your midwife or doctor first and book a session alongside that care, not instead of it.
If I wait to train, do I lose anything?
No. There is no fixed calendar and no advertised date for training, so there is nothing to miss by waiting. Levels are arranged around each student, so starting in six months or a year is no different from starting next week.
