Will I feel anything during my Reiki attunement?

Answered by Vanessa Chugani · Updated October 2026

Some students feel warmth, a light tingling or a sense of settling during an attunement. Others feel nothing at all, and that is just as normal. An attunement is a short process I guide in person in Canggu or live online, never recorded. What you notice afterwards matters more than what you felt in the room.

When people sign up for Level 1, the question I hear most before the day itself is simple: what will I actually feel? It is a fair question, and a hard one to answer honestly, because every student's experience during an attunement is different. I would rather answer it plainly than let anyone build up an expectation I cannot meet.

What people notice

Sensations during an attunement vary a great deal, and none of them means more than another. Some people feel warmth moving through their hands or shoulders. Some notice tingling, a sense of pressure easing, or tears they did not expect. Some feel sleepy, or unusually calm, as if something in them has stopped bracing for a moment. And some feel nothing at all: no heat, no tingle, no obvious shift in the room. Some notice their breathing slow, or a sense that time has stretched out, without anything dramatic happening at all. All of these are ordinary responses to the same process.

Why feeling nothing is fine

I would rather a student arrive with accurate expectations than romantic ones. An attunement is not a performance, and how much you feel on the day says nothing about whether it worked or how capable a practitioner you will become. If you are hoping for a dramatic jolt to confirm that something has happened, it is worth letting that expectation go before you arrive. This is worth sitting with before you arrive, rather than brushing it aside.

What actually happens

Training runs from Level 1 through Master Teacher, taught live in Canggu or live online. I do not teach from a recording and I do not run automated attunements. Groups are small, never more than six, and often it is just the two of us. Each level includes the manual, the attunement itself, and support afterwards as you start to use what you have learned. Symbols are taught from Level 1, not held back for Level 2, so there is real substance to the first level. This is also why training is never taught from a recording: an attunement is something I do with you, in the room or live on a call, not something a video can deliver. Each level is EUR 488 in person or live online, and we arrange dates around you rather than working to a fixed calendar.

This suits people who want a craft they can actually use afterwards: a second career, a way to support family and friends, or simply a practice of their own, not an afternoon of relaxation. Whatever you feel on the day, or do not feel, is only the beginning of what you walk away with.

Related questions

Does feeling nothing mean the attunement did not work?

No. How much you feel on the day has no bearing on whether the attunement worked, or on how capable a practitioner you become. Some people notice warmth or tingling, others notice nothing at all, and both are ordinary. What matters more is what you do with the training afterwards.

Is an attunement different online compared with in person?

The process is the same either way: I guide it live, whether you are in the room in Canggu or on a call. Training is never taught from a recording and never automated. What you feel, or do not feel, tends to vary by person rather than by format.

Will I feel the symbols differently once I reach Level 2?

There is no fixed sensation to expect at any level. Symbols are part of the teaching from Level 1 onward, and how an attunement feels can change from one level to the next, or stay much the same. Either way is normal and does not affect how well you learn to work with them.
