Is Reiki training suitable if I am in my fifties or sixties?
Answered by Vanessa Chugani · Updated September 2026
Yes. Most of the people I train are in their fifties and sixties, often arriving after a career or once children have grown. There is no age limit and no fitness requirement. Training runs in small groups of up to six, or one to one, in Canggu or live online, at a pace arranged around you.
Most of the women who train with me are in their fifties or sixties. Some come after retiring from a long career. Some come after their children have grown and moved out. A few come after a loss that reshaped what mattered to them. None of that is unusual here, and age has never been a barrier to learning this.
A second act, not a starting point
Reiki training suits someone who has already done hard things. You have managed a career or raised a family, and that experience does not sit outside the training. It sits underneath it. Students in their fifties and sixties often arrive steadier and less rushed than those in their twenties, and that steadiness carries through once they start practising on other people.
What the training actually asks of you
There is no physical test and no exam. You are not required to sit cross-legged on the floor or hold a pose for an hour. Training happens seated, working through hand positions and learning to pay attention with your hands rather than your eyes. If a position is awkward for your knees, your back or your shoulders, you adjust it.
- Levels run from Level 1 through to Master Teacher, at EUR 488 per level, the same price whether you train in Canggu or live online.
- Groups are kept small, no more than six people, and it is often just you and me.
Every level includes the manual, the attunement itself, and support after, so you are not handed a workbook and left to work it out on your own. If you are wondering whether you need to remember everything from the day itself, you do not: the manual stays with you, and a level can be revisited later if you want a refresher before moving on. See the full training details for what each level covers.
There is no fixed calendar
Dates are arranged around each student rather than a set timetable. If you want to space Level 1 and Level 2 a few months apart instead of a single weekend, that is normal. Nothing here runs on a countdown, and there is no advertised start date to work around.
What to expect, and what not to expect
An attunement is a quiet, seated process. Some students feel warmth or a shift in the room. Plenty feel nothing at all, and that is entirely normal too. I would rather you arrive with an accurate picture of what this is, small and ordinary, than a romantic one built up from what you have read online.
What you leave with is a practice you can use on yourself and your family, and if you carry on to Master Teacher, on students of your own. If you want to talk it through before deciding, get in touch, or read more about how the training is taught.
Related questions
Is there an age limit for Reiki training?
No. There is no upper age limit for any level, including Master Teacher. What matters is willingness to learn and practise, not age. Many students train in their fifties and sixties, often after a career or once children have grown, and the pace is arranged around them rather than a fixed timetable.
Do I need to be physically fit to train?
No. Training is seated and unhurried. There is no floor work, no held poses and no physical test. Hand positions can be adjusted for stiff knees, a sore back or limited mobility, and the attunement itself is a quiet process you experience sitting down.
Can I train later in life if I want a second career?
Yes, and it is one of the more common reasons people arrive. Reiki training through to Master Teacher gives you a practice you can use with others, not just yourself. Dates are arranged around you, so retraining alongside other commitments is normal here, not an exception.
